BFAR: Glenda caused P2B damage in Laguna Lake
Laguna Lake, home to several fishpens in the southern Luzon area, suffered at least P2 billion in damage from Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said Sunday.
BFAR Director Asis Perez said this was the agency's initial estimate but added the damage could be greater, radio dzBB reported.
But he also clarified the fish caught near the Laguna Lake area are likely safe to eat.
As of Sunday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Glenda left at least 94 dead and more than P7 billion in damage to property.
The Department of Health warned the public last Friday against eating bangus caught near the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority pumping station in Mandaluyong City.
In a "24 Oras" report last Friday, health authorities, including Mimaropa DOH head Eduardo Janairo and the Makati Health Department, warned of health risks from eating fish caught in the Pasig River in Mandaluyong City, saying these may have been contaminated by pollution in the river. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
