Not even the former chief of the Women's Desk of the Manila Police District, retired C/Insp. Anita Araullo was spared from fraud after ATM skimming took her retirement pay away.

According to a report on "24 Oras" on Monday, Araullo thought she had around P400,000 in her bank account. But the money that she got from 31 years of police service was no longer in her account.

According to bank records, there were withdrawals were made from ATM terminals across Manila in 2012.

However, these withdrawals were made when her ATM card was in her possession. She said she never checked her account because she trusted her money was safe.

Araullo added that despite withdrawal limitations, over P100,000 was taken out each day from her account.

Araullo said she may be a victim of ATM skimming, a schemer where someone copies account details from the magnetic strip on the card when the ATM is used.

The National Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident and working closely with Araullo's bank to get more evidence. — Trisha Macas/JDS, GMA News
