Huawei Technologies Philippines Inc. is seeking Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) approval to launch virtual teller machines (VTMs) in the Philippines, saying these are the new breed of automated teller machines or ATMs.
BSP guidance is necessary for identifying the possible use of VTMs by local banks, Huawei business development manager Dennis Benipayo told reporters during the unveiling of eSpace Virtual Teller Machine's Remote Banking Solution.
"If they clarify that and they would say it's like an ATM, then it would be easy for banks [to adopt the VTM]," he said. "We're trying to talk to BSP. We've already aired our concerns and asked what's their take on the VTM," he noted.
However, the BSP has yet to receive a formal inquiry from Huawei on VTMs, said Deputy Governor Nestor Espenilla. "I'm not aware of it yet. I'll have to find out," he said in a text message to GMA News Online.
A VTM takes advantage of high definition (HD) video communication, intelligent routing, and cloud collaboration technology, according to Huwaei.
David Zhang, Huawei director for enterprise product solutions sales, claimed that VTMs can complement bank outlets, reduce transaction costs, increase revenues, and improve customer satisfaction and user-experience.
“VTMs are about 24/7 round-the-clock service with high security... Deployment is easy and can be installed in many high traffic spots like shopping mall, business campus, airports, hotels, etc.,” Zhang
noted.
Once the company gets the green light from Bangko Sentral, Huawei Philippines intends to roll out the new machines on a commercial scale, Benipayo said.
"It depends on how fast our discussions with BSP and acceptance of banks. It will not be exclusive to one bank. Key here is who will be the first one to launch," he said. – VS, GMA News
