US President Barack Obama joked on Friday about having his credit card declined at a New York City restaurant because of a fraud alert.
Obama made the remarks as an aside while signing an executive order to make credit card purchases in the US more secure.
"I went to a restaurant up in New York when I was at the U.N. General Assembly and my credit card was rejected. It turned out I guess I don't use it enough so they thought there was some fraud going on. Fortunately, Michelle had hers," Obama said, prompting some laughter during the signing at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington.
Obama also announced steps to install enhanced security features on federal government credit cards next year such as microchips, over less secure magnetic strips, and PIN numbers like the kind used more commonly for ATM debit cards.
He has urged banks and retailers to follow suit after massive data breaches put millions of U.S. consumers at risk. — Reuters
