The peso was largely flat on Friday ahead of the release of US employment data.

The local currency eased by 1 centavo to 46.77:$1 from 46.76 on Thursday.

“There was low volatility in the market today on investors’ wait and see attitude ahead of tonight’s non-farm payrolls which could confirm the strength of the US economy,” said Cherica Y. Vicente, currency analyst at MetriEtrade Inc.

The US jobs data is expected to show that the US was able to generate 201,000 additional jobs last month compared with 173,000 in August.

Vicente said the report is likely to give an estimate of the average hourly earnings – up by 0.2 percent – and an unemployment rate at 5.1 percent in the world's largest economy
