What employers look for in fresh graduates

With the incoming graduation season, online jobs portal JobStreet Philippines on Wednesday revealed the top attributes employers look for in hiring fresh graduates.

“We asked our employers, ‘Which one character or factor affects a fresh graduate getting in your company?’ Number one is attitude,” Philip A. Gioca, JobStreet Philippines Country Manager told reporters in a briefing in Taguig City.

Gioca said employers are looking at the attitude of applicants because most fresh graduates are millennials, who usually leave work after a short period of time.

“One of the things we always hear is employees leaving in a very fast rate,” he said, noting that employers are now looking for applicants who are “positive in terms of working, staying longer in terms of tenure.”

He said that based on results of the JobStreet Fresh Graduates Report 2017, employers also look at the field of the study of the applicants and if this is related to the position they are applying for.

Another consideration that employers factor in, according to the survey results, is the asking salary price of applicants.

This differs with last year’s top three considerations – on-the-job training, extra-curricular activities, and part-time jobs. —ALG, GMA News
