GSIS expands benefits, financial options for pensioners

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Wednesday announced expanded benefits and financial assistance to government retirees, including higher funeral benefits, stronger survivorship protections, and solar energy loans for pensioners.

Under the Ginhawa for All (GFAL) Grand package for pensioners and surviving spouses, the GSIS increased the funeral benefit for qualified members and pensioners to P50,000 from P30,000 for death claims on or after July 13, 2026.

The agency also removed the cohabitation requirement and the previous cap on survivorship pension, with qualified surviving spouses able to receive the full benefit equivalent to 50% of the deceased member or pensioner's pension. Remarriage remains a ground for termination.

The GSIS said the annual Christmas Cash Gift has also been expanded to include qualified pro-rate pensioners under the Portability Law, equivalent to one month's pension or P10,000, whichever is lower subject to program rules.

Pensioners in areas declared under a state of calamity may also avail of the GSIS Emergency Loan. It has also announced the GSIS Solar Energy Loan (GSEL), where they may borrow up to P500,000 payable for up to five years at 5% annual interest.

Pensioners may also avail of General Insurance products under GFAL Grand including Fire Insurance, Motor Vehicle Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance, applicable to terms and requirements.

They may also avail of GSIS Motor Vehicle Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance programs, and housing options through the Lease with Option to Buy which provides clients access to selected GSIS-acquired properties.

The benefits and services are accessible through digital and alternative service channels, and GSIS Touch.

"Ang ating mga pensionado ay naglaan ng malaking bahagi ng kanilang buhay sa paglilingkod sa bayan. Kaya ang pagkilala sa kanila ay hindi lamang isang selebrasyon," GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo "Wick" Veloso said.

"Isinasagawa natin ito sa pamamagitan ng mga programang nagbibigay sa kanila ng mas maraming benepisyo, financial options at mas madaling access sa serbisyo ng GSIS," he added.

Under its charter, the GSIS is mandated to ensure that its members are insured against certain contingencies in exchange for their monthly premium contributions. They are entitled to benefits such as life insurance, separation or retirement benefits, and disability benefits. — VDV, GMA News
