(Updated 7:26 a.m.) - Motorists received their first whammy for the New Year, after at least two oil firms hiked the prices of their products effective Tuesday.

Starting 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Shell increased the prices of its products by as much as 90 centavos per liter, for unleaded fuel, radio dzBB reported.

It also hiked prices of regular gasoline by 60 centavos per liter, diesel by 30 centavos per liter, and kerosene by 20 centavos per liter.

But it said the price hike will not apply to areas placed under a state of calamity due to tropical storm "Sendong" (Washi).

Effective 6 a.m. Tuesday, Eastern Petroleum imposed a similar 90 centavo per liter price hike for unleaded fuel. It hiked prices of regular gas by 60 centavos per liter, and diesel by 30 centavos per liter.

The dzBB report said Petron will not impose any price adjustment for its products for now, including kerosene.
