Pinoys are world's top gin drinkers, market research says

Filipinos are world's top guzzlers of gin, a market research firm has learned, according to a blog on website of The Economist.
A graphic produced by The Economist based on findings of a study by market research firm IWSR said per capita drinking of gin among Filipinos was at 1.4 liters in 2012, while Americans were a far second at 0.3 liters.
Spain was third at 0.6 liters, and Britain fourth with each UK national drinking only 0.4 liter of the beverage in 2012.
"The Filipinos' taste for gin can be attributed in part to good marketing and to the spirit's long-established toe-hold in the local market. Ginebra San Miguel, a firm that makes the world's two best-selling brands, started operations there in 1834," The Economist said.
Filipinos also ranked third in consumption of rum, with each Filipino drinking 1.4 liters of the stuff in 2012.
India topped rum consumption in 2012 with each peson there drinking 0.3 liter of rum in 2012. The US came second with 0.6 liter per person.
Russia topped the charts when it came to vodka consumption, with each Russian downing a whopping 13.9 liters of vodka in 2012.
The US was second with 1.9 liters, while Ukraine was third with 7.7 liters.
France topped the list in consumption of scotch whisky with each Frenchman drinking 1.9 liters of the beverage.
The US topped the list in terms of tequila consumption with 0.36 liter. — ELR, GMA News
