PHL vehicle output grows 5% in 2013 – ASEAN data

The number of vehicles assembled in the Philippines went up 5 percent last year, but data from ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF) showed it continued to lag its Southeast Asian peers.
Motor vehicles assembled in the Philippines totaled 79,169 units in 2013 from 75,413 a year earlier.
The 2013 numbers from Thailand showed 2.457 million units, 1.208 million from Indonesia, 601,407 from Malaysia, and 93,630 from Vietnam.
In terms of sales, AAF data showed the Philippines was on of the lowest in the region, with 181,738 units last year – up by 16 percent from 156,654.
While the number of vehicles sold in the Philippines was more than what Vietnam sold – 98,649 – it was way behind Thailand's 1.331 million, Indonesia's 1.230 million, and Malaysia's 655,793.
In the case of motorcycles and scooters, the Philippines assembled 729,480 units from 588,292, up by 24 percent. For Indonesia, it was 7.780 million, 2.219 million for Thailand, and 549,244 for Malaysia.
Philippines motorcycle and scooter sales went up by 7.2 percent to 752,835 units from 702,599, compared with 7.771 million for Indonesia, 2.004 million for Thailand and 546,719 for Malaysia. – VS, GMA News
