NGCP: Visayas power grid out of red alert; outlook for Luzon grid improves
With improvements in the power situation, the Visayas grid was no longer under red alert as of Thursday afternoon, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said.
The NGCP's power situation outlook for Friday indicated the Visayas grid will have 11 megawatts of reserve power for Friday, effectively bringing it out of red alert.
NGCP defines a red alert as a system condition when the contingency reserve is zero or a generation deficiency exists.
But as of Thursday afternoon, the NGCP said the Visayas will have 1,585 MW of available power compared to a peak demand of 1,574 MW.
The power situation in Luzon also improved, with 929 MW of reserve power projected for Friday, along with available capacity of 9,498 MW and a projected peak demand of 8,569 MW.
In Mindanao, a reserve deficit of 7 MW is projected for Friday, along with capacity of 1,255 MW and a projected system peak demand of 1,263 MW.
Earlier, Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said three power plants in the Visayas went offline, including one each in Cebu, Iloilo and Leyte. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
