After jeepneys, could UV Express vehicles be the next to roll back fares?

Riders of UV Express vehicles are calling for it, especially with a new round of fuel price rollbacks about to take place Sunday.

Many commuters are in favor of a fare rollback, according to a report by GMA News' Julius Segovia on GMA News TV's "Balitanghali Weekend."

However, Stop and Go Transport Coalition president Jun Magno appealed for understanding from the public.

"Sana maunawaan naman kami ng mananakay na kami naman kahit minsan hindi pa kami humihingi ng taas na pamasahe sa atin pong mga mananakay. At ang amin poing pamasahe ay P2 per kilometer," he said.

Meanwhile, some international airlines have lowered their fuel surcharges as a result of lower fuel prices.

But some domestic airline operators have yet to do so, prompting the Civil Aeronautics Board to ask them to explain.

"There is a significant decrease in the cost of crude oil and this should translate in a decrease in jet fuel," said CAB executive director lawyer Carmelo Arcilla.

Arcilla said failure to lower the fuel charges may result in sanctions, including fines, suspension and ultimately the revocation of the permit to operate.

For his part, Cebu Pacific vice president for corporate affairs Juan Lorenzo Tañada said they will have to monitor the situation.

"Kailangan po namin ma-monitor nang mabuti ang prices na ito. Sa ngayon, we're also in the recovery phase sa dating binili na fuel," he said.
