DTI announces 15-centavo rollback in price of pandesal

After a long series of meetings with industry leaders, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced a price rollback for pandesal starting on Wednesday.

GMA 7's "24 Oras" reported on Tuesday that the Philippine Federation of Bakers Association Inc. (PFBA) agreed to lower their prices by 15 centavos or add two grams to each pandesal.

From P2 to P2.50 or 32 to 35 grams, the bread will now cost P1.85 to P2.35 and weigh 34 to 37 grams.

However, Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal will retain their prices due to LPG costs.

DTI Usec. Vic Dimagiba said they authorities would continue to persuade local flour millers to lower their prices in order for other bread products to follow the trend.

PFBA vice president Chito Chavez asked industry leaders to follow the price rollback, saying they must reconsider their prices with changing production costs.

Meanwhile, Edith de Leon, SVP of Nestle PHL, said port congestion issues prevented a steady decline of prices for milk, instant noodles, and luncheon meat.

While prices could not be lowered further, more foodstuff will be packed into containers while a brand of luncheon meat promised to maintain its current costs. —Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
