After fish, vegetable prices start rising too

After fish prices started going up as Holy Week nears, prices of vegetables also started going up this week.
In Dagupan City, prices of beef and chicken also started going down, GMA Dagupan's Joanne Ponsoy reported on "Primera Balita."

At the Malimgas Public Market in Dagupan City, vendors said the price increase in vegetables was due to higher demand as the Holy Week draws closer.
Catholics are expected to abstain from meat and turn more to fish and vegetables during the Lenten season.
The report said that as of Monday, prices of lowland vegetables went up:
- eggplant from P30 to P40 per kilo
- okra from P40 to P50 per kilo
- ampalaya from P50 to P60 per kilo
- upo from P20 to P25 per piece
- okra from P40 to P50 per kilo
- ampalaya from P50 to P60 per kilo
- upo from P20 to P25 per piece
Benguet vegetables such as cabbage, Baguio beans, carrots and potatoes saw an increase in prices by P10 per kilo, the report added.
However, some markets sold "budget" mixed vegetables at P25 to P30 per kilo.
Meat prices
Meanwhile, pork prices remained steady at P190 per kilo, but beef prices went down from P250 to P240 per kilo while chicken prices went down from P140 to P130 per kilo.
Fish prices also remained generally stable though prices of malaga went down from P250 to P220 per kilo and sapatero down from P150 to P120 per kilo.
Prices of tulingan (P120 per kilo), galunggong (P150 per kilo) and bangus (P120 per kilo) remained stable. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
