The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has again allowed the school buses that are 15 years old or older to ply their routes for one more year.

However, LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said the agency would require school service operators to sign affidavits stating that they would retire their old vehicles and replace them with new ones.

“We are now requiring each of them bago mag confirm na pumunta ng LFTRB for inspection. Dala dala nila as we said 'yung kanilang affidavit of undertaking,” Ginez said.

The extension is the second since a memorandum circular was released in 2013 that asked the phasing out of old school services.

Based on LTRFB data, there are 1,997 out of the 6,264 registered school services are already 15 years old or older and need to be replaced. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
