PNOC EC finds natural gas deposit in Isabela
Though the PNOC Exploration Corporation found a natural gas deposit in Santiago City, Isabela, earlier this week, the Energy Department said that it was still unclear how much gas there was in the deposit and whether it was commercially viable to extract.
“It's a find. It's a start,” said former Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, who turned over his post ot Undersecretary Zenaida Monsada this Friady, in a report on GMA 7 news program “Saksi”.
Though the deposit's commercial viability was still being determined, it was already clear that the find was not as large as the Malampaya gas project in Palawan. The Malampaya gas field has a generating capacity of 2,700 megawatts - providing 40%-45% of Luzon's energy requirements.
But because the Isabela gas deposit was close to shore, it would be easier to extract than the Malampaya gas found in the West Philippine Sea. — Reuters
