ASHTAM: CAAP warns pilots of ash from Bulusan volcano
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued an ash fall notice to airmen, or an ASHTAM, as Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon spew volcanic ash on Friday.
The aviation authority released the notice at 3:30 p.m., advising pilots flying near the area to exercise extreme caution when passing between Lopez and Masbate airspace for the next 24 hours.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued a yellow alert after Mt. Bulusan expelled ash plume reaching 200 meters above its summit and moving west to northwest.
Volcanic eruption and ash clouds could have significant impacts on aircraft operations, according to CAAP.
ASHTAM is a special notice to airmen (NOTAM), notifying by means of a special format change in activity of a volcano, a volcanic eruption and/or volcanic ash cloud that is of significance to aircraft operations. -Keith Richard Mariano/NB, GMA News
