NDRRMC estimates damage to crops and infra at P160M

The damage caused by Typhoon Nona to infrastructure and agriculture amounted to P159.50 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Wednesday.

Citing initial estimates, the council said the covers the provinces of Marinduque in Region IV-B and Camarines Sur, Masbate and Albay in Region V.

The damage to agriculture has so far reached P156.70 million. The amount encompasses damaged rice, corn, crops and high-value commodity crops. Power interruption is being experienced in five cities and 100 municipalities in four provinces in Regions IV-A, IV-B, V, and VII, the council noted.

"As of December 16, power supply in two cities and 38 municipalities has been restored in Regions IV-A and VIII," it said.

Power in Quezon province has been restored except for the municipalities of Quezon, Perez, Polilio, Patnanungan, Jomalig, San Francisco, and Pagbilao.

Electricity is also back in Ternate, Cavite.

In Camarines Sur, power has been restored except for Caramoan and Garchitorena.

Power now flows into Nothern Samar, expect in Catubig, Gamay, Lao-ang, Pambujan, Palapag, Las Navas, Biri, Capul, San Antonio, San Vicente, Lapinig, and Silvino Lobos.

In Samar, power was restored in Calbayog City, Sta. Margarita, Gandara, San Jorge, Tarangnan, Pagsanghan, and Matuguinao.

Communication lines in Northern Samar are out as of 8:00 p.m., Monday, with 24 2G sites and 18 3G sites of Globe Telecom affected in Eastern, Northern and Western Samar, the NDRRMC said. – with Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VS, GMA News
