Fish prices up, vegetables down in Metro Manila markets

Prices of fish have gone up in select markets in Metro Manila, driven by limited supply.

According to a report by Maki Pulido on GMA's "24 Oras" on Monday, prices of fresh galunggong (round scad) have increased to as much as P250 per kilogram at the Farmers Market, and P200 at the Tandang Sora market.

This compares with the usual price of P200 per kilogram, and the P180 per kilogram price for supplies which are frozen or imported.

"Malamig po kasi 'yung panahon, bihira lang po kasi," said Minda Dechavez, a fish vendor.

Price of other fish products also remain high: pampano at P500 per kilo, salay-salay at P280 per kilo, and tulingan at P280 per kilo.

Prices of bangus (milkfish) range from P180 to P200 per kilogram, and tilapia from P90 to P120 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, prices of several vegetables have decreased by as much as half due to the oversupply.

Tomato prices are now at P50 per kilogram from p100 previously, calamansi at P60 from the previous price of P120, and broccoli at P150 per kilo from P300 previously.

Prices of cauliflower are unchanged at P120 per kilogram. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
