Fruits in season like mangoes and papayas are selling at low prices in Quezon City’s Balintawak market.

According to a report by James Agustin on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali on Thursday, mangoes are selling at P50-P80 per kilo and papayas at P30 per kilo.

Vendors attributed the lower prices to the influx of supply.

Other local fruits, however, were selling at relatively higher prices including avocado, suha (pomelo), dragon fruit, melon, and seedless grapes.

Prices of imported pineapple, pongkan, orange, pears and Fuji apples were also seen as exorbitant.

“Kasi po yung mangga, season po kasi ngayon. Tapos ‘yung ibang fruit, kaya mahal, kasi gawa rin po ng panahon,” vendor Joshue Gadingan said. —Margaret Claire Layug/VDS, GMA News
