Maynilad accepts penalty imposed by MWSS
Maynilad Water Services Inc. has accepted the financial penalties imposed by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for failure to provide 24/7 water services to some customers in a barangay in Las Piñas City.
City a letter dated July 3, MWSS said that Maynilad “conveyed readiness to comply” with the financial penalties imposed by the MWSS Board of Trustees “as a gesture of goodwill” but “without admission of guilt.”
“The penalty was due to Maynilad’s failure to comply with its Service Obligations under the Concession Agreement, specifically its failure to provide 24/7 water services to its customers in portions of Brgy. Captain Albert Aguilar (CAA) in Las Piñas City,” the MWSS said.
“Those severely affected in the aforementioned barangay we’re deprived of water service with a minimum of pressure of seven psi for a period of more than 15 days, which affected public health or welfare,” it said.
The financial penalty will be rebated to Maynilad’s severely affected customers in Barangay CAA.
“Each affected account will receive a rebate of P2,500, which will be applied to the August water bills or statements of accounts until fully expended,” the MWSS said.
The agency said its regulatory office will facilitate the implementation of the rebate to all affected customers.
“Rest assured that the MWSS RO is doing everything in its power to protect the consumers’ interest,” it said. —NB, GMA News
