The Department of Agriculture (DA) continues to receive reports of unusual deaths of hogs from a few areas in the country, its spokesperson Noel Reyes said on Wednesday.

“We are continuously monitoring,” DA spokesperson Noel Reyes said in an interview on GMA News’ Balitanghali when asked about the deaths.

“May mga ilan daw, ayon sa aming Crisis Management Task Force (CMTF) sa swine. So they verifying it,” he added.

The DA is waiting for the report of their personnel in the field to determine the disease that infected the suspected pigs.

“Para i-ascertain. Baka sipon lang naman yun or other swine diseases,” Reyes said.

Reyes said they could not divulge the names of these areas to avoid people from flocking the sites and to avoid further spreading the suspected disease.

The DA announced on Monday that the majority of the samples from the suspected pigs in Rizal and Bulacan turned positive of African swine fever based on tests conducted in England.

Reyes clarified that the concern areas in Guiguinto, Bulacan and Rodriguez, Rizal are already free of ASF presence. —NB, GMA News
