Processed meat industry to lose P55-B over pork ban by LGUs —PAMPI

The P300-billion processed meat industry in the country stands to take a huge hit if local government units continue to ban on hogs and pork products from Luzon, the Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc. warned on Monday.

PAMPI Spokesperson Rex Agarrado told reporters that 56 of the 81 provinces in the country have implemented the pork ban to prevent the African swine fever virus from entering their respective jurisdictions.

“P55 billion is the potential damage to the industry if the LGU bans are not rationalized. Our prayer is for these LGU bans to be based on science, based on reason,” Agarrado said.

"Processed meats are not carriers of ASF. Processed meats are all processed at temperatures that kills the organism," he added. —NB, GMA News
