Based on the Department of Agriculture’s price monitoring, siling labuyo can go for as much as P600 per kilo in Metro Manila.

The DA said that there are still some places that sell them for as low as P350 or P500 per kilo.

At the Kamuning Market, though, it can even go as high as P700 per kilo.

One chili pepper sells for P1 to P2.

Vendors are the Kamuning Market say there is little supply because of recent typhoons.

“Market forces at hand. It’s a function of law of supply and demand,” Agriculture Secretary William Dar explained on Thursday.

“Kung hindi sila nagtanim early, male-late 'yon. Baka magha-harvest pa, January,” Dar added.

Sili prices were in the spotlight last year when a photo of supposed prices of the pepper in a supermarket went viral. The supermarket chain clarified that the photo was inaccurate. — BM, GMA News
