Filipino-Chinese community raises P265M for efforts vs. COVID-19


The Filipino-Chinese community, through the Filipino Chinese Community Calamity Fund (FCCCF), has raised P265 million in donations for efforts against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a statement, the FCCCF said the donations cover medical supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE), N95 and surgical masks, gloves, safety goggles, sanitizing alcohol, and thermos scanners to frontliners and both public and private hospitals.

It is covers donations of food packs to the urban poor families of Metro Manila and the rural poor in the provinces.

"The Filipino Chinese community reaffirms strong support for the 'enhanced community quarantine', social distancing and all positive efforts to fight COVID-19 in the Philippines," the statement read.

The government has ordered the extension of the enhanced community quarantine placed over Luzon until April 30. It was originally scheduled to be a month long and to end on April 13 after implementation started on March 17.

The FCCCF is made of 11 Filipino-Chinese business, civic, and cultural organizations across the country -- Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII); Federation of Filipino Chinese Associations of the Philippines; Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (PCCCII); Overseas Chinese Alumni Association of the Philippines; World News Daily; Filipino Chinese Amity Club; Filipino Chinese Shin Lian Association; Overseas Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines; Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation; Philippine Jin Jiang Shen Fu Zhen Association; and World Fujian Youth Association & Business Club. --Jon Viktor D.
