PNP, PEZA sign regulations for Ecozone Industrial Peace Program

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) on Monday signed the implementing rules and regulations for the Ecozone Industrial Peace Program.

According to the PNP, the program was created to protect labor rights and productive industry gains without sacrificing industrial peace.

It will also serve as a law enforcement mechanism to address industrial crimes like pilferage, hijacking, and technical smuggling, it added.

“Alongside the battle against COVID-19, the greatest challenge for our country is to turn the economy into a haven of progress in a healthy community,” PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas said in a signing ceremony.

PEZA Director General Charito Plaza said the PNP will help them fulfill their mandate in the labor sector and the environment.

“We are grateful to PNP leadership in sharing with us our mandate and value to uphold the rights and the welfare of the Filipino workers and to uphold environmental laws,” she said.

Under the IRR, Police Regional Offices will designate police officers, including female police officers on the established PEZA police assistance desk to address security issues, complaints, queries, and other concerns in the workplace.

PEZA will also create its police force that will undergo training related to police operations, crisis resiliency, civilian resistance, profiling, human relations, investigation, human psychology, community relations, IED awareness and bomb threats management seminar, and life-saving techniques.

The memorandum of agreement creating the program was signed on March 26, 2018, Plaza said. — DVM, GMA News
