No price hike for Pinoy Pandesal, Pinoy Tasty until end of November —bakers group

The prices of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal will not increase until the end of November this year, a group of bread manufacturers said Saturday.

“As much as we can, we want to hold the prices of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal until the end of November,” Philbaking president Johnlu Koa said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

For her part, Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said the price of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal have remained at P35 and P21.50 for the past five years or since 2016.

Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal are cheaper varieties of bread. It is a partnership between the Department of Trade and Industry and Philbaking launched in 2010.

Members of Philbaking include top brands such as The French Baker, Gardenia Philippines, Julies, among others.

Koa said that despite the increase in wheat prices in the world market, the bread manufacturers group is supporting the government’s initiative to keep local bread prices from going up.

By the end of November, he said that the movement of prices of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal will depend on the price of wheat globally.

“Should it start to soften or if something nice happens in the planting conditions or harvest conditions in the US then, perhaps we can see some alleviation,” Koa said.

“‘Pag gumanda naman ang world prices ng wheat in the future, siyempre maapektuhan din ang presyo natin currently,” he said.
