Bello expects other regional boards to hike minimum wage after NCR, Western Visayas

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said Sunday that he expects other regional wage boards to issue orders for a minimum wage increase in the coming weeks.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Saturday announced that the minimum wage of workers in the National Capital Region will increase by P33 while those in Western Visayas will be up to P110.

“I thank the wage boards for heeding my call to expedite the review of the current minimum wage in their respective regions,” Bello said in a statement.

“Following the lead of the NCR and Western Visayas, I expect the other regional wage boards to issue their respective wage orders in the coming days and weeks,” he added.

The said increase brought the daily minimum wage in NCR to P570 for workers in the non-agriculture sector, and P533 for workers in the agriculture sector

Meanwhile, the daily minimum wage in Western Visayas is now P450 and P420 for those employing more than 10 workers and those employing 10 or less workers, respectively. —Mel Matthew Doctor/KG, GMA News
