Marcos meets Pascual, DTI execs to discuss more affordable fertilizers

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday met Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual and other officials of the trade department to discuss plans how to make fertilizers more affordable for farmers and increase their productivity.

In a Facebook post, the Office of the President shared photos of Marcos together with Pascual and other officials.

“Together with his team, the president continues to prepare to secure the food supply in the country,” the Office of the President said.

Marcos, who is also the secretary of agriculture, has said he was eyeing talks to address the soaring prices of fertilizers.

He said the government could purchase cheaper fertilizers through government-to-government deals.

Marcos said he was considering communicating with China, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Russia for the procurement of fertilizers.

He also pushed for a farm-to-market road masterplan that will, according to him, ensure food security in the country.

Marcos said the FMR masterplan will serve as a guide for the government in promoting food security and empowering rural communities. —Richa Noriega/NB, GMA News
