BSP: P1K polymer bills available in more ATMs nationwide

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Friday said more automated teller machines (ATMs) nationwide are now dispensing the new P1,000 polymer banknotes.

According to BSP, at least 17,304 ATMs or 92% of the ATMs in the country have been recalibrated by banks to dispense the polymer bills as of December 2022.

Of the number of ATMs, a total of 7,274 polymer-ready machines are located in the National Capital Region.

"39 million or 7.8% of the total 1000 peso polymer banknotes have been available to the public as of end-November 2022," BSP said.

The central bank reminded the public, retailers and banks to accept folded banknotes, whether paper or polymer, as they are legal tender and can be used for daily payment transactions.

"If doubtful on the value and/or authenticity of a banknote, the public is encouraged to go to any bank for assistance. The bank will then submit the banknote to the BSP for examination," it added.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
