Dangwa flower sellers see higher prices, but also bigger sales

Vendors at the Dangwa flower market in Sampaloc, Manila are expecting to hike prices as Valentine's Day nears—but also see an increase in sales due to the day of love falling on a school day.

According to a report by Ralph Obina on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday, flower store owner Agapita Pamulaklakin said that two dozen roses from Baguio City are currently going for more than P1,000, up from the previous price tag of P700, due to an increase in fertilizer prices as well as the prevailing cold weather.

Because of this, buyers should prices to continue to rise in the run-up to Valentine's Day, which is still more than a week away.

At the same time, vendors say that flowers tend to sell more whenever Valentine's Day falls on a school day—and this year, February 14 is a Tuesday. — BM, GMA Integrated News
