Marcos: Sara Duterte impeachment has no impact on PH economy

The impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte has no impact on the Philippine economy, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Thursday.

''I doubt... hindi naman siguro, wala ako makikitang effect basta't patuloy lahat ng ating pinaplano, lahat ng ating mga strategy tungkol sa investment, tungkol sa mga bagong structural changes na lagi kong pinaguusapan... 'yun lang naman ang tinitingnan ng investor eh,'' Marcos said at a press briefing when asked about the economic impact of the impeachment.

(I doubt... I don't think so, I don't see any effect as we will continue all our plans, all our strategy about investment and the structural changes that I'm always talking about... that's what the investor is looking for.)

''I don't think it will have an effect...'' the President added.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives impeached Duterte with 215 lawmakers endorsing the verified complaint against her, which was transmitted to the Senate for the impeachment trial.

The Senate, however, did not tackle the transmittal of the articles of impeachment on the last session day.

This as Congress went on recess to make way for the campaign period for Eleksyon 2025.

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero said the impeachment trial against Duterte would not start until the upper chamber resumes session in June.
