NGCP transmission rates down in January 2026

NGCP transmission rates down in January 2026

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced Wednesday a decrease in transmission rates in the January 2026 electricity bills of households, citing movements in the ancillary services (AS) rate.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the overall transmission rate for the December 2025 billing period declined by 0.68% to P1.3455 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) from P1.3547 per kWh, as the AS rate—the cost of services sourced from the reserve market and bilateral contracts—was set at P0.5971 per kWh.

The NGCP's transmission rate, or the fee for delivering electricity through its grid, was set at P0.6058 per kWh. This is billed to end-users through distribution utilities and electric cooperatives.

"For the January 2026 electric bill of end consumers, NGCP charges only 60 centavos per kWh for the delivery of its services," the NGCP said, noting that its revenues are capped and regulated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

The NGCP in December 2025 called for the unbundling of transmission charges to promote greater transparency and help consumers' understand the different components reflected in their electricity bills.

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) earlier this week announced a reduction in its electricity rates for January to mark the second straight month of downward adjustments, on the back of lower transmission and generation charges. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
