PH to prioritize trade, investment as 2026 ASEAN-BAC chair
The Philippine government will set its eye on improving trade and investment as well as strengthening supply chains within Southeast Asia as the country takes over the chairmanship of the 2026 ASEAN-Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).
“Under the Philippine Chairship, we place strong emphasis on building economic corridors that expand trade and investment, strengthen regional supply chains, and open doors of opportunity for businesses and communities across ASEAN,” said President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. during the ceremonial handover from Malaysia to the Philippines in Malacañang on Thursday evening.
Marcos said the Philippines will be guided by ASEAN’s theme for the year, “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
“This theme speaks clearly to our emerging needs and challenges. Across the region, economies are transforming, technologies are advancing, societies are progressing all towards inclusive growth,” the Chief Executive said.
Further, Marcos said the Philippines is committed to support ASEAN-BAC’s plans and programs in the coming years. He noted that the ASEAN-BAC’s priorities for 2026, anchored on four pillars: people, planet, platform, and productivity,
“These initiatives include empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises, workers, youth, and women; strengthening food security and agricultural productivity, advancing a digital and AI-enabled ASEAN; and boosting industry growth and regional integration across key sectors,” said Marcos. “The Philippines remains fully committed to supporting ASEAN-BAC’s plans and programs in the year ahead.
“We will continue to provide platforms for dialogue and partnership by bringing together policymakers, business leaders, investors, and innovators,” Marcos added. “And in doing so, we deepen regional cooperation, we strengthen confidence in ASEAN, and support the crucial work of the ASEAN-BAC.”
AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes, representing ASEAN-BAC Malaysia 2025 chair Nazir Razak, handed over the ASEAN-BAC flag to incoming ASEAN-BAC chair Joey Concepcion III.
