The Philippines is now working to revive its coconut industry and become the world’s top exporter given the country’s large supply of the commodity, Finance Secretary Frederick Go said Tuesday.

Go — who also serves as the chairman of the Coconut Levy Fund — on Tuesday said the administration is working with the coconut industry.

“The Coconut Levy Fund has a huge budget to support the coconut industry, so we’ve been talking to the stakeholders of the coconut industry to figure out how we can work together to actually revive this industry,” he said during the ASEAN Editors & Economic Opnion Leaders Forum in Makati City.

“I think the data today shows that we are the second largest exporter of coconuts to the world. I think there’s a lot of opportunity here to really become maybe the leader in the coconut industry in the world,” he added.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) show that the Philippines produced 4.022 million metric tons of coconut in the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting a 3.5% decline from the 4.018 million metric tons in the same quarter of the previous year.

The full-year 2025 coconut production stood at 14.506 million metric tons, slightly higher than the 14.500 million metric tons in 2024.  —RF, GMA Integrated News
