DOTr announces P1.00 fare hike for traditional jeepneys, P2.00 for modern jeepneys
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced Tuesday that there will be a P1.00 fare increase for traditional jeepneys and a P2.00 hike for modern jeepneys amid the recent spikes of pump prices due to the Middle East conflict.
"Inaprubahan na po natin kagabi ang pagtaas ng pamasahe pagdating sa mga provincial buses, metro buses, P2P, kasama din po ang jeepneys, at airport taxis," Lopez said in an interview on Unang Balita.
(Last night, we approved the fare increase for provincial buses, metro buses, P2P, including jeepneys and airport taxis.)
Lopez said that the fare hike will take effect on Thursday.
"Pagdating sa ating mga jeepney, ngayon po ang traditional jeepney natin ang pamasahe natin is P13.00. May conditional increase pong kasama yan, yan ay ginawa na natin permanent at nagdagdag pa tayo ng P1.00. So, P14.00 na po sa first four kilometers. That's for the traditional jeepney," Lopez said.
(When it comes to our jeepneys, right now our traditional jeepney fare is P13.00 with a conditional increase included. We have made that permanent and we have added P1.00, so it is now P14.00 for the first four kilometers. That's for the traditional jeepney.)
"Kung bibigyan natin to ng example, tulad ng Cubao-Divisoria, that's 10 kilometers po no ang tingin namin, ang pamasahe diyan is P23.00, ngayon dahil sa dagdag singil, that will be P25.00," he added.
(For example, the Cubao-Divisoria route, which is 10 kilometers. The fare there is P23.00. Because of the additional charge, that will be P25.00.)
This fare hike comes amid the escalating tension in the Middle East, which gravely affects oil prices worldwide.
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. already ordered the immediate release of P5,000 cash assistance for public utility vehicle drivers to ease their burden on oil price shocks. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
