DPWH eyes bidding for Maharlika Highway rehabilitation in April 2026
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is targeting to start the bidding for the massive rehabilitation of the over 3,000-kilometer Pan-Philippine Highway popularly known as the Maharlika Highway, within the month.
“We have not started [the bidding] yet… but we’re eyeing it this month as well,” Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon told reporters at the sidelines of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) general membership meeting in Taguig City on Wednesday.
The DPWH estimated the rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway will cost about P16 billion.
The Maharlika Highway is the Philippines' primary 3,517-kilometer north-south is a network of roads, expressways, bridges, and ferry services that connect Luzon, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao. It was proposed in 1965 and completed in the 1970s.
Dizon earlier said that the agency is eyeing to engage with the country’s “top and most reputable contractors” to rehabilitate the Maharlika Highway to ensure the efficiency and quality of the project.
The Public Works chief also said the rehabilitation of Maharlika Highway would be done “as early as the end of 2027.” —LDF, GMA News
