Napocor warns of rotational brownouts in off-grid areas due to diesel shortage
The National Power Corporation (Napocor) has warned of possible rotational brownouts in isolated areas due to a shortage of diesel supply among some power producers.
In a “24 Oras” report on Monday, Napocor President Jericho Nograles told Super Radyo dzBB that the affected areas are served by the agency’s Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG).
These areas are typically remote islands and off-grid communities where electricity is generated using diesel power plants.
Nograles said some plants are struggling with the cost of diesel, affecting their ability to maintain steady operations.
He said rotational brownouts may have to be implemented due to the tight supply situation.
However, Nograles assured that power supply remains sufficient in other parts of the country.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/MCG, GMA News
