P500 to P1k monthly wage hike for kasambahays in Zamboanga Peninsula OK’d

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in the Zamboanga Peninsula has approved a P500 to P1,000 monthly wage increase for kasambahays (domestic workers) in the region.

According to RIX-DW-06 posted on the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) website, the P500 monthly wage hike will apply to domestic workers in chartered cities and first-class municipalities in the region.

From P5,000, the minimum monthly wage for domestic workers in these areas will be now P6,000 effective May 20.

Domestic workers in first-class municipalities in Sulu – Indanan, Jolo, Parang, Patikul, Siasi and Talipao – are entitled to a P1,000 monthly wage increase, bringing the minimum monthly wage in these areas from P5,000 to P6,000.

Other municipalities in the Zamboanga Peninsula – including the rest of the towns in Sulu – will implement a P500 monthly wage hike for kasambahays, who will now enjoy a monthly minimum salary of P5,500 from the previous P5,000.

The wage order was issued on April 16 and published in a newspaper of general circulation on Monday, May 4. — JMA, GMA News
