Visayas grid under yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2026 —NGCP

The Visayas power grid was placed under yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon due to forced outages and the derated capacity of several plants, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert status would be implemented from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

A yellow alert indicates that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.

The Visayas grid is running at an available capacity of 2,580 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,423 MW.

The grid operator said 11 plants are on forced outage since March 2026, four since 2025, two since 2024, 2 since 2023, and one since 2021.

It added 12 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 857.2 MW unavailable to the grid.

NGCP said the factors that contributed to the raising of yellow alert are:

  • forced outage of TVI Unit 1 (169 MW), TVI Unit 2 (169 MW), PEDC Unit 3 (150 MW)
  • high system demand
