NGCP: Transmission rates down 8.8% in May 2026

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced on Wednesday a reduction in its overall transmission rate to be charged to consumers this May.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the overall average transmission rates for the April billing period, to be billed by distribution utilities and electric cooperatives this month, dropped by 8.80% to P1.5983 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), down from March's P1.7526 per kWh.

“The decrease was driven by reductions in both transmission wheeling rates and Ancillary Services (AS) rates,” the grid operator said.

The power transmission company said its transmission wheeling rate —the fee for delivering power through the transmission grid— declined by 14.16% to P0.6028 per kWh from P0.7022 per kWh in the prior month.

Meanwhile, the AS charge or the pass-through costs for power supplied by power generators who are AS providers during supply-demand imbalance decreased by 5.02% to P0.8088 per kWh, from P0.8516 per kWh month-on-month.

“For the May 2026 electric bill of the end consumers, NGCP charges only 60 centavos per kWh for the delivery of its services,” the NGCP said, adding that AS still accounted for the bulk of transmission charges.

“NGCP does not earn from AS rates, as these are remitted directly to generating companies, and it does not benefit from any movement in their prices,” the company said. — RSJ,GMA News
