Visayas grid on yellow alert on Sunday evening, May 31, 2026
The Visayas grid will be on yellow alert from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
This is due to the grid's available capacity at only 2,573 MW but peak demand is at 2,327 MW, NGCP said in an advisory.
"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," the NGCP said.

A total of 13 plants have been on forced outage since May 2026, it added.
Others on forced outage are: 1 plant since March 2026, 3 plants since 2025, 2 plants since 2024, 2 plants since 2023, and 1 plant since 2021.
Meanwhile, 12 plants are on derated capacities.
As a result, 959.05 MW are unavailable to the grid.
The NGCP said the unavailability of Visayas' large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, PEDC 3, and KSPC 2 contributed to the yellow alert declaration. —KG, GMA News
