DOLE releases holiday pay rules for June 12, 2026, Independence Day

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released the holiday pay rules for June 12, 2026, a regular holiday for the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence.

In a statement on Sunday, DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino told employers in the private sector to observe the correct pay rules in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to uphold workers’ rights and ensure that employees receive the wages and benefits due them under the law.

The pay rules under Labor Advisory No. 11, Series of 2026 are as follows:
  • Employees who render work on the regular holiday are entitled to receive twice or 200% of their daily wage for the first eight hours of work ((basic wage x 200%).
  • Employees who work beyond eight hours on the holiday shall be paid an additional 30%of their hourly rate (hourly rate of the basic wage x 200% x 130% x number of hours worked)
  • Employees who work on June 12 and whose schedule coincides with their rest day are entitled to an additional 30% of their holiday rate (basic wage x 200% x 130%).
  • Employees who perform overtime work on a regular holiday that also falls on a rest day shall likewise be compensated with an additional 30% of the employee’s hourly rate on that day (hourly rate of the basic wage x 200% × 130% x 130% x number of hours worked).
  • Employee who do not report for work on June 12 are still entitled to receive their full daily wage, provided that the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.

In September last year, the President issued Proclamation No. 1006 declaring the regular and special non-working holidays for 2026.

June 12, 2026, which falls on a Friday, was declared a regular holiday in celebration of Independence Day.

Tolentino encouraged workers with questions or concerns regarding holiday pay and other labor standards to seek assistance from the nearest DOLE Regional Office or its attached agencies.

Workers may contact the DOLE Hotline 1349 or visit the official DOLE Facebook page for information, guidance, and assistance on labor and employment-related concerns. — JMA, GMA News
