NGCP: Visayas grid on yellow alert on Monday, June 15, 2026

The Visayas grid will be on yellow alert anew for five hours on Monday due to the continued unavailability of major coal plants in the region, while high demand is expected, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert status will be in place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 15.

This comes as the available capacity was reported at 2,581 megawatts (MW), against a peak demand of 2,482 MW, as 953.1 MW remain unavailable to the grid.

The grid operator attributed the declaration to the higher system demand forecast, and the continued forced outages of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) 1, TVI 2, Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) unit 3, and KSPC 1

It said nine plants are on forced outage in June 2026, eight plants are on forced outage since May 2026, one plant since March 2026, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021, while 11 plants are running on derated capacities.

The yellow alert status indicates that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement. —AOL, GMA News
