The first tranche of the minimum wage hike in the National Capital Region (NCR) is set to take effect on Saturday, July 25.

In June, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced an P85 increase in the daily minimum wage for workers in Metro Manila, which will be implemented in two tranches.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Friday, the first tranche will provide a P60 daily wage increase.

The second tranche, which will add another P25 per day, will take effect on January 20, 2027.

DOLE warned establishments that penalties will be imposed for failure to comply with the wage order.

Around 1.1 million minimum wage earners in Metro Manila are expected to benefit from the increase. Non-agricultural workers who previously earned P695 per day will now receive P780.

Meanwhile, agricultural workers will see their daily wages increase from P685 to P743.

DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino said the wage increase was driven by the rising cost of goods. —Jean Mangaluz/VBL, GMA News
