BIR collects ?2.003T in January-July 2026, surpasses target by 0.68%

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Wednesday announced it has collected a total of P2.003 trillion in the first seven months of 2026.

In a statement, the BIR said its January to July collections surpassed the target of ₱1.990 trillion for the period by P13.53 billion or 0.68%.

Year-on-year, the seven-month period collection grew by 5.4% or ₱102.60 billion higher in January to July 2025 period.

“We remain guided by the President’s directive to make government services more accessible to taxpayers, and by Secretary Frederick Go’s direction to make tax administration fairer and more efficient for businesses and investors,” said BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza.

The taxman said it has already collected around 60% of its full-year collection target for 2026, reflecting improving taxpayer compliance and the sustained collection efforts of the Revenue Regions, Revenue District Offices, and the Large Taxpayers Service.

In July alone, the bureau collected ₱358.44 billion, exceeding the ₱336.07 billion target for the month by ₱22.37 billion, or 6.66%.

Last month’s collections were also ₱19.41 billion higher than the same month last year, posting 5.73% year-on-year growth.

“These results show that better taxpayer service, clearer rules, and effective enforcement can support stronger compliance and collection,” said Mendoza.

“We will continue helping taxpayers comply correctly and on time, while making sure that taxes properly due are collected fairly and efficiently,” added the BIR chief. — BAP, GMA News
