The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched its first Trabahong Digital Job Fair in Naga City, offering remote work opportunities across various tech-enabled roles.

In a press release, the DICT stated that the two-day job fair was held from August 13 to 14, with over a thousand job vacancies offered by at least 23 participating employers.

“The job fair offered 1,222 vacancies in high-demand fields, including software development, cybersecurity, digital marketing, multimedia design, and customer service,” the DICT said.

According to DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry continues to boom in the country, employing around two million workers, according to the latest records.

Aguda added that, to create more job opportunities beyond traditional BPO roles, the agency’s job fair is expected to expand remote work opportunities for Filipinos equipped with internet access and proper training.

“When AI came, we were worried that people might lose their jobs. So, the President said, find a solution... not only did jobs increase, but revenue per headcount also increased,” Aguda said.

The launch of the job fair was held in collaboration with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, according to the DICT.

The agency noted that over 1,500 pre-registered job seekers—including students, freelancers, and entrepreneurs—attended the event.—Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/LDF, GMA News
