Taguig modern jeepney firm has fixed income for drivers, no boundary system
Transport company Taguig Transport Service Cooperative will not be imposing a boundary system on its modern jeepneys.
A report by Saleema Refran in 24 Oras on Thursday said that the drivers of the cooperative's jeepneys will have a fixed income of P700 for a 10-hour work day.
"Wala na po yung agawan ng pasahero sa daan. 'Ke may pasahero ka 'ke wala, tatakbo ka bilang driver," said chairman Freddie Hernandez.
The drivers will also be accompanied by a Passenger Assistance Officer.
The company conducted a test run of its modern jeepney on Thursday, which followed the Taguig-Pateros-Pasig Bayan route. Passengers were able to ride for free.
The vehicles are air-conditioned and equipped with a dashcam, GPS, and CCTV inside and outside the jeep. They also have free wifi for its passengers.
The engines are the more environmental-friendly Euro-4, and the jeeps also have a speed limiter, which ensures the drivers can only drive up to 80 kilometers per hour.
The minimum fare of the modern jeeps will be at P10, with an additional P2 per kilometer. Students, senior citizens, and persons with disability (PWD) can avail of discounts.
Modern jeeps have recently been rolled out in several parts of the country.
In Metro Manila, Beep jeepneys run the route of Marikina to Sta. Mesa.
The Senate Employees Transport Cooperative also have 35 modern jeeps.
In Tacloban, Leyte, 45 solar-powered jeeps are in operation.
The Department of Transportation will roll out 200 more modern jeepneys on Friday. — Jessica Bartolome/BM, GMA News
