Amid the Holy Week exodus, traffic on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) remained smooth on Monday, but is seen to get heavy on Holy Thursday.

“Mabilis pa naman ang daloy ng trapiko. Wala pa tayong namo-monitor na pagdagsa ng ating kababayan dito sa NLEx at SCTEx,” said NLEx/SCTEx traffic senior manager Robin Ignacio in an interview on GMA News’ Balitanghali.

According to Ignacio, the surge of motorists will start on Wednesday past noon, while traffic is expected to get heavy on the morning of Maundy Thursday.

On Friday, the management of NLEx/SCTEx deployed additional toll tellers and patrol crews, anticipating the surge of motorists during the Holy Week exodus.

Ignacio also said that motorists coming from Manila do not have to go through Balintawak.

“Yung taga-Manila, ang pasok na po ay dito sa C3 area at ang gagamitin ay ang ating Harbor Link,  yung elevated expressway. Hindi na kailangang dumaan sa Balintawak,” Ignacio said.

On regular days, only five toll points are open. But because of the anticipated surge of motorists in Holy Week, Ignacio said they are willing to open 29 toll lanes.

“Para mabilis din po yung pag-process doon sa Tarlac toll plaza,” he said. — Joviland Rita/BM, GMA News
