Some 70% of the rider applicants of motorcycle hailing application DBDOYC Inc. fail the government’s safety assessment due to the strict evaluation process, the company more popularly known as Angkas said Monday.

“We have set a definitive standard for our bikers. This is why 70% of our applicants do not pass our regular safety training and assessment,” Angkas head of Regulatory and Public Affairs George Royeca said in an emailed statement.

Angkas last month said it aims to retrain all of its 27,000 biker-partners to ensure and maintain a 99.997% safety rate.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) approved last May a six-month pilot testing of Angkas, during which the government would be observing how the company operates.

Riders who did not undergo the four-hour retraining, or fail to pass it, face the risk of deactivation from the ride-hailing platform.

“This is so we can guarantee our loyal riders 100% safety in the hands of our well-trained drivers,” said Royeca.

Angkas was also given the #NEWPH award in last month’s Mega Equality Ball, citing its role in giving an alternative transport service and providing motorcycle owners employment opportunity. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDs, GMA News
